Frequently Asked Questions
How to use Consensus Conference Calling

How does this work?

Consensus is self-service conference calling. No reservations or operators required. Just enter the phone numbers of your participants, or give them the number to dial in (password protection optional). You can start and manage the call with either your web browser or any telephone.

How many people can be on one call?

We currently offer a limit of 16 lines per call. However, by using speakerphones, you can have as many people as you want on each line.

Will participants need to be on the Internet to join in my conference call?

No. You only need a telephone to participate in a conference call. You may also manage your calls from a telephone.

What will happen if I use my web browser to manage a conference call, and my browser shuts down in the middle of the call?

Your call will continue without interruption. When you want to end the call, just hang up your phone, and charges will stop.

How do participants join a conference call?

If you are managing a call, you may either call them, or have them dial in. To dial in, have your participants call 1-213-225-2192 (toll-paid) or 1-866-219-3888 (toll-free), and then enter your Consensus account number at the prompt. If your conference has started, they will be connected right away. If not, they will be allowed to wait on the line and will be connected when you start the conference.

What if I want to start a conference from a hotel room, or somewhere else I have an extension instead of a direct dial number?

Enter your extension number (web interface only) as you place the call. When the call connects to your number, Consensus will automatically instruct the receptionist to transfer the call to your extension. It's a good idea to let the receptionist know ahead of time that you are expecting an automated call.

How do I place an international call?

Use this syntax: 011 + country code + city code + phone number.

Can I run more than one conference call at a time using Consensus?

No. Each account holder can run only one conference call at a time.

Why can't I dial certain international locations?

For security purposes, we deliberately block calls to the following countries: Afghanistan, Argentina, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Brunei, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, India, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Kuwait, Niue, Oman, Pakistan, Sao Tome, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Vanuatu, Venezuela, Yemen If the country you are trying to dial is not on this list, please check your syntax (see above).

Which web browser should I be using to manage my meetings?

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 and above.

When you are logged into My Account, the Customer Service contact information will be displayed.
